Baldwin Locks are by far some the most beautiful locks money can buy. These locks are second to none
and come with a hefty price tag. But the quality is unmatched. Baldwin locks can be found in the more expensive homes in your area. They require a
proper door thickness for proper installation of the mortise body.
These locks have very complicated inner workings. They should not be touched by just any locksmith! There are springs
inside the lock that can break. These springs are specially designed and bent to function in the lock body. Other parts in the lock
can wear out. Repairs should only be made by a qualified Master locksmith with years of training. Locksmiths of Baltimore has a few technicians
that we trust to solve any Baldwin issues. Because there are only a few, please call to schedule an appointment.
A Deadbolt Lock is your homes best line of defence against intruders. A solid deadbolt with a reinforced jamb is needed to help
protect against kick-in attacks and House Thieves. Even with your door locked, A weak lock AND FRAME will give way if it is not reinforced correctly. Your home, town home
condo or apartment needs to be secure with a good solid deadbolt lock. Not just a cheap imitation but something that can withstand several attempts at kicking it in. Thieves
hate noise so if the door will not give after 1 or 2 kicks, they usually will leave.
Deadbolts come in a variety of colors or finishes and styles. A single cylinder deadbolt has a keyhole on the outside with a turn knob on the
inside. A double cylinder deadbolt has a keyhole on both sides of the door. A double cylinder deadbolt is often used where glass is in the door. This keeps a thief from
breaking the glass, reaching in and unlocking the door with his arm. The bad side to a double sided deadbolt is in case of fire you need to know exactly where to go for
a key to unlock this door. If you have a family it would be good to include "finding the key" in fire drills.
Deadbolts that are old or worn should be serviced or replaced. Do not under estimate the importance of this lock. The cost to service
the lock should not break your bank account. Locksmiths of Baltimore provides deadbolt service around the Baltimore areas 24/7. If your deadbolt is broken or damaged
we will dispatch a qualified locksmith to remove it and install a new deadbolt within your budget.
Deadbolts having key problems can be fixed quickly and affordably by our locksmiths. If a key requires effort to turn or open your lock
then it may need to be rekeyed. Keys are made of soft brass and after years of use, wear down. Basiclly rekey the lock or rebuild the worn key to repair this nagging
problem.
You may elect to just upgrade your home security and purchase a higher security or heavy duty deadbolt.
Another option is a keyless deadbolt. Just punch in your code and the lock electroniclly unlocks the
door. Remote deadbolt locks are available as well as fingerprint and biometric deadbolt locks. While convenient they are not easy on the wallet.
Deadbolt Service is only a phone call away. If your lock is giving you problems then call the company that so many other Baltimore residents
have trusted over the years. Locksmiths of Baltimore is happy to help.
Schlage Locks have been around for over 90 years. You cannot visit a neighborhood in the USA today without finding a Schlage lock on somebodys
door. The hardware stores are full of Schlage products. After 90 years Schlage has become one of the most trusted lines of locks to home builders
and commercial builders today. With varietys of styles and finishes to match any decor, Schlage has really gone the extra mile to not only provide
for the safety and security of your family, but to look good in doing so.
Gone are the days of Antique locks with skeleton keys. In todays modern household electronic locks are quickly becoming the norm.
A classic example is Schlages BE365 Series Electronic Deadbolt. (see picture below)
With the push of a few buttons the deadbolt twist knob is activated
and you are allowed to retract the bolt. Otherwise the twist knob just turns in a circle and the door remains locked. The keyhole in the front of the twist knob is
for in case your batterys run down. This is what is called in the locksmith world as a key bypass.

lost a key and would feel safer having your home rekeyed, then give us a call. When lock problems pop up, we are here to help.
Locksmiths of Baltimore rekeys locks for auto, home, business and other uses. On a
daily basis we rekey homes, town houses, condos, apartments and even trailers on the residential side. On the commercial side we rekey
store fronts, warehouses and large corporate headquarters that require special master keying.
If you have fired an employee, changed a tenant or just lost a key and are concerned for the safety and security of your home or business then give
us a call. We will dispatch a locksmith out for your rekey needs.
This process does not require changing the hardware on your home or business. The physical
lock will remain on the door. We will change the key tumbler combination to fit a new key and the old key will no longer work. Pin tumbler locks found
on most homes, apartments, or condos can be rekeyed fairly quickly and affordably. The only problems that we run into with customers is how many locks they
need rekeyed in their home. Some doors can have up to 3 locks on a normal house. How is this possible?
A classic example would be a back door of a normal
home. Often there is small panes of glass in the door so the builder elected to install a double cylinder deadbolt in the door. The double cylinder
instead of a single cylinder deadbolt ( turn knob inside ) keeps a thief
from breaking one of the little panes of glass and reaching in through the locked door to unlock it. This means that we have to rekey
the outside cylinder and the inside cylinder. ( 2 locks )
Below the double cylinder deadbolt is a turn knob which also has a keyhole on the outside. This
means we have 3 locks on this door to rekey. Multiply that by a possible 3 back doors, a garage door, and a main front door and you could easily have
15 locks on your home that need to be rekeyed. So make sure you let us know how many key holes need to be rekeyed and not how many doors need to
be rekeyed and you will get a more accurate quote for the work and less of a sticker shock when the tech arrives.
Our Baltimore locksmiths take pride in their work. Service techs will respond quickly to your rekey needs. As a lock rekey
company in Baltimore, we try to give accurate quotes to our customers over the phone to illiminate any hidden charges that may come up on the job site. So it
is vital that you ( our customer ) give us accurate information about how many locks you may have on your house.
Do not be surprised to have a locksmith or
dispatcher ask you to snap a photo with your camera phone of a lock on your home, auto or business. It is much easier to quote accurately and fairly seeing the
locks then guessing. We believe this leads to an over all better experience for both the customer and the locksmith.
To rekey locks properly and professionally requires some very expensive machines and specialty tools. One of the machines
we use in our locksmith world is known as the blitz machine. It cuts keys exactly to manufacturers specifications which allows us to give you perfect keys
everytime. (photo below) Keys have to be cut to the proper depths and spacing in order to work correctly in the lock. Just a few thousand of an inch off
and a key can start to give you problems.
The locksmiths pin kit is the green box (see photo) with all the pretty colored pins. These pins are milled to exact
key specifications also. Not all locks require the same pins. A schlage key can use up to 10 different pins ( 0-9 )for the normal Schlage SC1 key.
A kwikset on the other hand uses only 7 different pins.( 1-7 ). Pin kits allow the locksmith to properly key new keys to your locks. A locksmith that
comes to your house in a car that does not have a pin kit is only going to change your locks (install new ones) and charge you alot for new locks.
Unless the hardware is damaged or broken, or old and weathered by mother nature, a simple rekey is all most customers need.
If you have to work to get your key to turn the lock then it probably is time for a rekey. When you feel a click when the key turns this often is
a sign that your key is starting to wear down and a pin may need to be replaced. Our locksmiths have the knowledge and the skill to repair any key issues that
may arise.
The Scam rekey company will not give you a quote over the phone. They will use the old bait and switch method. They quote
low prices over the phone but when the tech arrives the cost balloon out of site and usually only after he completes the work. If a locksmith company
can not give you a price over the phone for a service then it might be best to avoid them.
Lock repair work is our specialty. Why replace a $200 lock because it has a broken spring? After the service call and labor to remove and
replace a new lock, your looking at a $300 bill because of a simple problem that a good locksmith could fix for around $95. So who you call for your
locksmith work is so very important.
When a door lock on your home starts giving you problems, Locksmiths of Baltimore is just a phone call away. We first try very hard to repair the
broken or damaged lock before making our customers go through the expense of purchasing new. But when the lock is so far gone that a repair is
not possible we offer our customers quality replacements at affordable pricing. We do not sell imported locks. Read our imported lock section.
Locks that are exposed to the elements will rust and need to be replaced. Locks around the home that get used continuosly
during the day in high traffic areas will wear out much faster then locks that do not get used.
Most Door lock repairs for houses, condos, apartments, etc are usually very simple. A latch replacement or a strike adjustment will often
remedy the situation.
A Strike adjustment is a door lock repair that occurs often and is very affordable. Often with the changing of the seasons
a door can get out of alignment. The door hinges can weaken causing mis alignment. When this happens the latch or lock bolt will not go into
the door stike ( in frame ) properly. Often a home owner has to pull/push on the door or lift up on the door in order to get the bolt or latch to seat
into the door frame properly. Often a simple raising or lowering of the strike plate will fix this problem right up.
Door lock repairs can be needed at anytime. If you cannot lock your home at night then you
will be glad to know that we run emergency locksmith services at all hours of the night. Locksmiths of Baltimore is your best resource for
door lock repairs and emergency locksmith services 24 hours a day. Just give us a call and we will dispatch a qualified locksmith to your
home ASAP.
Kwikset locks have been around for over 60 years. It was one of the first tubular
locks invented that was easy to assemble. Thus the name kwikset. I was not around in 1946 when Adolf Schoepe
and Karl Rhinehart invented the lock but I would have to guess
there were still plenty of mortise locks and skeleton keys floating about. The history and
evolution of the kwikset line makes for interesting reading.
Kwikset History
Just like their competitor Schlage, there is not a neighborhood in america that does not have a kwikset lock on their door.
We run across kwikset tylo and polo knob locks almost everyday in our locksmith world. The b660 and 665 deadbolts
are also a very popular residential lock. Kwikset is a medium to light strength hardware line. Their locks did not meet
grade 2 specifications but they historically were a bargain and easy on the wallet. The locks come with a standard
5 pin core and keys cut to 7 depths. Locksmiths of Baltimore rekeys kwikset locks including the Titan and
smart key brands. Kwikset rekeys are often fast and affordable to the consumer.
In 1992 kwikset introduced their Titan line of locks. The titan line was a heavy duty lock
that was stronger and more durable then their standard product line. The titan key was larger and stronger and the lock had 6
pins instead of 5. In 2002 kwikset decided to break their product brand line into 3 levels.
The brands are Kwikset Security®, Kwikset Maximum Security® and Kwikset UltraMax Security®, presenting the
consumer with a move-up strategy. The Titan product line was re-branded to the UltraMax product line.
Locks being manufactured over seas and imported to america are copying kwikset key
and lock specifications on their imported cheap locks. That is how influential kwikset has been
on the lock and key industry. Kwikset is owned by the Black and
Decker Company. Black and Decker also owns Baldwin, Price Pfister and Weiser locks.
As locksmiths concerned with security for our customers, we would prefer to see our customers go with the
kwikset titan line on their home then the cheap imports being sold in the mass production hardware stores such as Home Depot. For a few extra
dollars you will get a whole lot more protection. Kwikset offers a full line of residential hardware. Handle sets, Deadbolts, lever locks
and also electronic push button keyless locks. They were the first to make a biometric-based keyless fingerprint scan lock. SmartScan™ 2007.
Locksmiths of Baltimore repairs, rekeys and services all of the kwikset brand lines of locks. If a kwikset lock
in your home, town house, condo or apartment is damaged or broken, our locksmiths will have the parts needed for a fast efficient repair or replacement.
Trust the locksmith company that thousands of Baltimore residents have for their residential locksmith needs.
